The current Taoiseach (Irsan for ''Prime Minister'') in power is Sinéad Kýosdóttir, who is the leader of the Dýrian Democratic Party, which currently holds the most seats for one single party in the Alþingi. The president is able to appoint the Tánaiste (Irsan for ''Deputy Prime Minister'') on the advice of the Taoiseach.
