All together the Fyoric state has a population of 3,460,828. ==History== ===Early history=== There is disagreement of the earliest confirmed date of inhabitants in Fyor, with estimates ranging from 8000 BC to 5000 BC. The general consensus is that it was in the 8th millennium BC. The disagreement has caused a lot of controversy over the History course taught in schools. There is also disagreement surrounding the location of ancient settlements and mountains in Fyor. Much of the controversy is around Monto Majo, it is commonly regarded as the first area of a settlement in Fyor, with humans living at the top of the mountain. However, it is also believed that the mountain never existed and instead the first settlement, "Hira", was instead over 300-400km away. Nomadism was not prevalent in Fyor, most inhabitants stayed within a certain area. For up until 101 AD it is thought that over 60% of the country was undiscovered. Elijah Makan's rule had come to an end in 1943 and his daughter, Sari Makan took control until 1965 where the dictatorship was overthrown and forced to stop due to mass protesting and civil unrest as a result of the bad economic situation which had not improved. In 1943 Elijah Makan died and his daughter, Sari Makan took control, her rule was even more authoritarian and she implemented great censorship and a secret police where people could report those who broke laws in exchange for things like food. However she severely mismanaged the economy and by the 1960s the Fyoric economy was in a terrible state, which was only made worse by other countries in Fantasia organising boycotts against Fyor. Many anti-government protests began to occur, and desperate to hold on to power, Makan implemented great social reform and enacted many liberal policies such as same-sex marriage, abortion and gender equality. This worked temporarily and protests began to stop and some international boycotts were lifted, however there was continued pressure on Makan especially as she refused to get rid of her authoritarian policies. Protests surged again in 1966 and again desperate, Makan removed all discriminative laws against Fyoric Explorers and withdrew the army from Explorers Island in an attempt to gain some international support. This ended up being a huge mistake, as she lost backing from the mainly hardcore nationalist groups which backed the dictatorship, and international support still did not come. Anti-government protests became huge in size and in 1967 Sari Makan stepped down and disappeared, many Fyoric people believed she killed herself. The liberal party PF (Progreso Fyor) won the first general election in 1965 with a landslide. Though Kiraso and Explorers Island were relatively liberal and irreligious (especially Explorers Island as nearly all the population were atheist), Fyor had now become much more liberal and less religious due to scandals involving the church, and also because of the dictatorship. Between 1965 and 1997 much of the social policies and attitudes in Fyor changed, this time period was known as "Malnovaĝo". Same sex activity was made legal and freedom of expression was guaranteed to the LGBT community, with marriage made legal later in 1982. Throughout Malnovaĝo, abortion was also legalised, mandatory religious education was scrapped, women received equal rights, discriminative laws against Fyoric Explorers and Explorers Island were removed and Explorers Island became a special territory of Fyor in 1969. Kiraso also acquired this status in 1978. Fyor only was responsible for defence in these territories, with everything else up to the territory themselves. During this time there was also an economic boom and living standards in Fyor improved massively. In 1967 Fyor held its first democratic elections for a 150 seat newly established parliament, 95 of which were won by the left-wing PF [Progreso Fiyir] party. Makano, a party that stemmed from the dictatorship, won 30 seats. The PF government kept the liberal social policies that had been put in place by Sari Makan, but removed all her authoritarian policies and disbanded the secret police. Controversially, they removed the teaching of religion in schools as they believed that religion held the country back. This was something that the centre-right opposition, the NPF [Nacia Partio Fiyir], latched onto as part of their future election campaigns, believing that religion should still be valued in Fyor. The PF also kept a liberal approach in regards to Kiraso and Explorers Island, while they forbid independence and wanted them to be part of Fyor, they allowed them a fair amount of autonomy. In 1983 a resurgence of religion began, the opposition of the FNP (Fyor Nacia Partio) declared that the PF were "poisoning" Fyor and that the population "needed to gain back faith". In areas that the FNP controlled, religious education was pushed and in some areas there were reports of forced conversions and mandatory church attendance. Fyor gradually started to become more religious and conservative. The FNP took advantage of bad governance by the PF, blamed social problems on lack of faith and caused division in liberal politics, splitting the PF vote in the process. In the 1985 election the PF lost 15 seats, previously their highest lost was only 3. In the 1989 election they lost a further 10, in 1993 they lost 6. The big hit came in 1997 when they lost 54, losing their majority in the process. Religiosity in Fyor had increased from 53% in 1981 to 87% in only 16 years. Migration out of the country and into bordering nations and Kiraso caused the percentage to only increase. Much of the liberal policies enacted by the PF were reverted and Fyor was now one of the most conservative and religious countries in Fantasia. In addition Explorers Island lost all autonomy, while remaining a special territory Fyor basically controlled it all. The rights of Explorers and other minority groups in Fyor was also limited, Fyoric nationalism grew greatly and in the 2001 election the FNP managed to win 123 out of 150 seats in the parliament, demonstrating the big change in only around 15 years. The FNP has governed Fyor ever since gaining power in 1997 and many minorities in Fyor have migrated to Kiraso. The 1972 saw the PF win the election again, albeit with a reduced majority of 90 seats. Opposition grew against them over the next few years as Fyor saw increasing crime, social issues and a declining economy in addition to the radical progressive policies of the PF. In 1977 the PF failed to win a majority, getting only 71 seats, so they formed a coalition with the centre-left PD [Partio Demokratia] who had 7 seats. This government ended up being a disaster, and opposition increased when they refused to call an election early despite the clear lack of support for it. One of the worst moves of the government was when they declared the conflict with Explorers Island "over", which angered many Fyoric people who believed that it was the land of Fyor. Since the liberal period, the economy has declined despite Fyor making its economy more open and free. Overall happiness and satisfaction has greatly declined, causing a large increase in mental health problems which continue to be among the biggest issues in Fyor. Crime, though it has always been somewhat of a problem, has increased to the highest levels ever recorded. International observers have claimed that an increase in problems in Fyor is a result of more restrictive and authoritarian laws put into place since 1997. Some religious figures in Fyor have claimed that the FNP have "pushed religion to be some sort of mandatory obligation with no guidance or encouragement on actually following it" which has led to a decline in the nation's happiness. In the 1982 election, the NPF won a landslide victory of 138 seats, with the PF and PD only winning 2 seats each. The NPF rolled back many of the liberal social reforms all the way back to the Makan era, and also pushed religion in Fyoric society. With regards to Kiraso, they arranged that it would become a 'special territory' under the state of Fyor and would be it responsible for everything apart from defence, which Fyor would manage. On the other hand they took a very hardline approach to Explorers Island, the Fyoric army presence was reintroduced and Explorers Island effectively lost all of its autonomy. Its residents were also banned from voting in Fyoric elections because they were "dangerous" and many discriminative laws against Fyoric Explorers and Explorers Island gradually found their way back into Fyoric law. ~~In December 2020, the FNP did not win an election poll for the first time since 1998, the poll for the 2021 general elections had the NP (Nacia Progresligo) in the lead by a 0.1% margin.~~ The NPF won the next election in 1987 with 125 seats, losing 13 but still having great control. The next few years were bad for Fyor however, with crime, particulary in the form of gang crime, rising again and the economy barely improving. In the 1992 election the NPF still managed to get a majority but only with 94 seats. Despite poor government performance, the NPF mainly focused their campaigns on religion and social issues to get enough votes. By the time the 1997 election came around Fyor was struggling severely and crime had risen to record levels, gangs had complete control over some areas of cities and towns. Furthermore, the power and transport infrastructure had become unsustainable and blackouts and irregular services had become a common occurrence. The NPF only won 68 seats in the 1997 election, a fair amount of which were due to their lax attitude towards crime which meant those affiliated with gangs voted for the party knowing nothing would change. The NPF attempted to govern as a minority but nothing could get done, so out of desperation they turned to the right-wing LIF [Ligaj Independencia Fiyir] who had 9 seats, in order to get a majority. This government ended up being even worse than the previous with and large anti-government protests occurred for the first time since the dictatorship. In 2001 documents were leaked showing that the NPF was collaborating with criminal gangs in certain electoral districts, resulting in a huge hit to their popularity and nearly 100,000 people protesting in the capital city, Kailo, against the government. In the 2002 election the NPF won 63 seats, but the PF made a resurgence and managed to win 20 seats alongside the centre-left newly formed Liberecpartio which won 50 seats. A coalition was formed of them, PF, PD and 3 independents. The government promised big investment in Fyoric infrastructure and while this was successful, the raging social problems and crime were not addressed. Moves to stop intervention in Explorers Island and allow its residents to vote in 2007 were met with fierce unpopularity and it cost the government the election. In 2022 conspiracy theories emerged that the NPF paid the government to do this so it could win the 2007 election and ruin any chance of another liberal government. In 2007 the NPF returned with a majority, which it managed to hold until 2017. However throughout this period not much changed in Fyor and the NPF again relied on campaigns that focused on things like immigration, religion, Explorers Island and infrastructure to win elections. Although a huge part in their success was down to gangs which the NPF essentially protected, the fact that many Fyoric people lost confidence in the political system, and the failure of other parties to run successful opposition campaigns. In 2021, the party FXF [Fronte Popular Fiyir] was formed, led by Isac Kapaj. It ran on an extreme platform seeking to completely "rebuild" Fyor. It openly expressed facist, anti-democratic and racist views towards Fyoric Explorers and other minorities. It also proposed to bring back capital punishment and torture and permanently locking away any person associated, either currently or in the past, with a gang. The party quickly received support despite its extreme views as people had become so frustrated with the rule of the NPF. The NPF attempted to ban the party, but after fierce protests erupted they backed down. On numerous occasions, FXF supporters stormed the national parliament with threats towards government officials. When elections came round in 2022, the FXF won a massive majority of 126 seats and the NPF only 12, all of which were in places where gangs had complete control. On the day of the election, FXF leader Isac Kapaj declared the moment as the biggest turning point in history for Fyor. Since gaining power, FXF has followed through on many of its extreme policies. It has placed a temporary ban on all elections, removing all councils and replacing them with a single FXF councillor, enacted censorship and authoritarian policies, and launched numerous army operations towards Explorers Island. It has also pledged to remove all Fyoric Explorers from Fyor "forever". One of the most internationally condemned actions was when Kapaj authorised the arrest of nearly 150,000 Fyoric citizens who were said to have been associated with gang activity. Furthermore, many goverment members of the last few Fyoric governments of the NPF have been arrested for "destroying the country". Under the rule of the FXF, Fyor has essentially become a dictatorship again. Despite widespread international condemnation, the FXF still has high public support in Fyor, as many ordinary Fyoric people believe that they have finally solved the problems of crime and the economy. The majority of the inhabitants of Kiraso are [[Kirasan]] and speak [[Kiras]], Kirasans are people of mixed Fyoric and Fyoric Explorer descent. Many Fyoric people can understand Kiras and vice-versa, but when a Fyoric person and a Kirasan person are having a conversation they will usually converse in their native languages as they can understand each other, but usually find it hard to talk in the other person's language. Kiraso is much more liberal than Fyor, and many ~~Fyoric~~ people who are part of ~~the~~minority ~~LGBT~~groups ~~community~~in ~~migrate~~Fyor have migrated there for acceptance and safety. Other Fyoric people also migrate there due to the fact that Kiraso is richer, and more developed ~~and has a lower cost of living than Fyor~~. In recent years immigration has become a hot topic in Kiraso, with many Kirasans calling for a limit to preserve their culture as over 15% of the population is made up of people from Fyor. The majority of the inhabitants of Explorers Island are [[Fyoric Explorers]] and speak [[Jigoton]]. Fyoric Explorers are people who are descendants of the explorers that came to Fyor from Tritonia hundreds of years ago. Fyor has continuously tried to "modernise" Explorers Island, however the international community have instead called it a "Fyorise". Explorers Island is again much more liberal than Fyor, and the most out of all the territories~~. ==Politics== For nearly all of its existence Fyor was a monarchy, with it being ruled by descendants of the very first inhabitants of Fyor, though this caused confusion as to who exactly this was and what qualified as descendance. In 1901 this system was abolished ~~and unintentionally~~ replaced with a dictatorship, which continued until ~~1965~~1967 before being overthrown. From then onwards Fyor ~~has bee~~was a parliamentary republic. ~~From~~until ~~1965-1997~~the 2022 elections, where the ~~liberal~~FXF ~~party~~gained PFa ~~(Progreso~~majority ~~Fyor)~~and ~~governed~~abolished ~~Fyor.~~many ~~From~~governmental ~~1997~~and democratic institutions, ~~till~~most ~~present~~notably the ~~conservative~~position ~~FNP~~of ~~(Fyor~~Prime ~~Nacia~~Minister, ~~Partio)~~restoring ~~governed~~nearly ~~Fyor~~all power to the president. [[Explorers Island]] has previously been self-governing, but this was abolished in 1982, leaving the territory with limited autonomy. In 2022 Isac Kapaj removed any autonomy the territory had and gave Fyor absolute control over it. Laws passed in Fyor are not enacted in Explorers Island unless they are passed under a "special island act", this was referred to as the "Explorers Island act" before it was renamed due to the previous name implying it was separate from Fyor. While Fyor's economic policies have always been a mix of socialism and capitalism, mostly leaning towards socialism, in recent years the economy has moved more towards a capitalist direction, which many people believe will save the struggling economy. The current prime minister is Nikolao Aleĉjo who leads the government in parliament, with the president being Antono Lini. Bills are made in parliament and are passed to the presidential office which consists of the president and 9 advisers. Ultimately, it is the president who decides whether to pass the bill or not and make it law. If the president does not pass a bill then parliament can either drop it, make amends to it or try again. This system causes problems when the prime minister and president are from different political parties, and results in situations where bills go back and forth between the 2 places as the president will not make them law. In 2018 a new law was introduced to prevent things from going back and forward without any explanation or changes. If a bill fails 5 times it becomes "mortinta" (dead) and the president must make amends to it, it then goes to the parliament who can either approve or reject the changes. If there is approval the bill automatically passes and becomes law. If it fails, Then it is put to a referendum for the Fyoric public to decide. So far this situation has only happened 3 times, only 1 time did this result in a referendum in 2019 which caused criticism as the issue was seen as too minor to be put to a referendum and was seen as a waste of time for the public. The referendum was about the Elĝraj train routing and the public decided if the train should go to through Elĝraj underground or overground, it had a expected low turnout of only 38%. The laws in the Fyoric territory of [[Kiraso]] are much different to the ones of mainland Fyor and are generally much more liberal. The Fyoric Football League is popular in the country, the most successful team is [[Kailo Urbo FC\|Kailo Urbo]] who have won 24 league titles. Other popular sports include [[basketball]], [[rugby]], [[ice hockey]] and [[snowboarding]]. The traditional sport of [[Kurufalolaŭmont]] is popular, it involves running down a hill and throwing targets at people to make them fall or slow them down, the first person to finish wins. The sport is only played on gentle slopes with no rocks etc to prevent accidents, and in winter it is only played on hills with soft and thick snow. Despite these general precautions it is still responsible for the majority of sport related injuries in Fyor. While now only official games use the original targets that cause minor injury and bleeding, up until 1998 it was possible for anyone to buy the 'dolorapunktoj' before it was banned for sale completely. Now the hard, original targets can only be used and sourced if an official game is being organised and they must be destroyed afterwards, though many are taken from games and used to play informal games with others and the law is not that well enforced. There have been numerous incidents where informal games of the sport have led to severe injuries and deaths.
